Gary Phillips and I have a running *contest* over who
has the most GF's and spends the most on thistle. :-)
He commented he only had a few GF's thus far and they
were primarily eating sunflower seeds.
I have noticed the same thing. Although I only have
about 20 (thankfully nowhere near my pre-molt numbers
of 200-300), they are consuming far more black oily
sunflower seeds than thistle.
Is this an adaptation to the unusual cold we are
experiencing in that they are getting "more bang for
the buck" in one big seed vs. hundreds of small seeds?
Any transplants from cooler climes who noticed that
GF's ate more sunflower seeds in the coldest months?
Inquiring minds....
