Did the usual loop around Northern Mecklenburg County. First stop at Cowans
Ford Wildlife Refuge, nothing much:
Bufflehead - 6
Wigeon? - 13
Chickens - 5
Peacock - 1
2nd stop- thermal ponds at McGuire Nuclear Station
Lesser Scaup - 75
Bufflehead - 2
Mallard - 6
3rd stop - Lake Norman
Common Loon - 6
Horned Grebe - 16
Canada Geese - 3
4th and best stop - Coddle Creek Resevoir at the Shimpock Rd. area:
PB Grebe - 3
Mallard - 4
Shoveler - 12
Pintail - 4
GW Teal - 30
Hooded Merganser - 2
Ruddy Duck - 25
Coot - 2
Least Sandpiper - 10
Common Snipe - 20?
RB Gull - 150
Herring Gull - 1 - 1st year mixed in with all the rings
GC Kinglet - 2
American Pipit - 10+
White Crowned Sparrow - 15 - hanging out by the silo further down Shimpock.
Have been around there for a month or so.
Grackle - yes hundreds, but left the ground at first sight so no searching
for other blackbird species.
5th stop, last stop - breast of the Coddle Creek dam
Gadwall - 20
Ruddy Duck - 20
Coot - 4
Savannah Sparrow - 5
