Falls Lake birding

I hit several spots at Falls Lake today. It was a beautiful day for
birding; a little nippy at first, but it soon warmed up.

My first stop was the railroad trestle off of Redwood Road. I was
looking for the common snipe seen by Will Cook last weekend, a lifer for
me. Miracle of miracles, I actually saw them! Other highlights
included a pair of Hooded Mergansers and several Palm Warblers.

Here is the list for the RR trestle and the walk back and forth (in
order of appearance):

- American Robin
- Brown Thrasher
- Dark-eyed Junco
- Tufted Titmouse
- American Crow
- Canada Goose
- Common Flicker
- Blue Jay
- Carolina Chickadee
- Northern Cardinal
- White-throated Sparrow
- Song Sparrow
- Yellow-rumped Warbler
- Eastern Towhee
- Mourning Dove
- Downy Woodpecker
- Great Blue Heron
- Northern Harrier
- Ring-billed Gull
- Herring Gull
- Mallard
- Double-crested Cormorant
- Red-headed Woodpecker
- Ruby-crowned Kinglet
- Winter Wren
- Hooded Merganser
- Red-shouldered Hawk
- Palm Warbler
- Common Snipe
- Killdeer
- Red-tailed Hawk
- Turkey Vulture
- Field Sparrow

I then went over to the other side of Falls Lake and birded Lick Creek
and the path at the end of Boyce Mill Road (which is very birdy and a
real enjoyable walk). The highlight here was an adult male Common
Yellowthroat. There were a couple of ducks out on the water, but
nothing I could make out without a scope. Between the two areas I
added:

- Red-bellied Woodpecker
- Eastern Bluebird
- Golden-crowned Kinglet
- Common Yellowthroat
- Brown-headed Nuthatch
- Pine Warbler
