Field Research Assistants Needed For Studies In Eastern North Carolina



We are currently looking for individuals to fill the following temporary
positions.  Please feel free to distribute to anyone who may be interested.

FIELD RESEARCH ASSISTANTS (3) needed for telemetry study of Whip-poor-wills
on managed pine plantations within the coastal plain of North Carolina. Crew
leader (1 @ $1400/month) and Field research assistant (2 @ $1100/month)
positions will run from mid Apr until mid Jul 2000. Duties include; capture
of whip-poor-wills using mist nets and electronic callers, attachment of
telemetry transmitters, tracking and activity monitoring of radio tagged
birds, vegetation surveys, and data entry. Qualifications include;
Willingness to work long, odd hours (especially at night) in a hot and humid
climate with numerous biting insects, experience in mist netting and radio
telemetry, vegetation experience and familiarity with basic electronics
helpful but not necessary. Applicants for Head field research assistant
should have ability to manage data and keep work on schedule. Housing will

FIELD RESEARCH ASSISTANTS (4) needed for study of Wayne's Black-throated
green Warbler and Henslow's Sparrow within the coastal plain of North
Carolina. Crew leader (1 @ $1400/month) and Field research assistant (2 @
$1100/month) positions will run from early Apr until late Jul 2000. Student
field research assistant (1 @ $1000/month) position will run from late May
or early Jun until late Jul 2000. Duties include; establishing survey
points, conducting point counts for all bird species in various forested
habitats, conducting point counts and transect counts for all bird species
in grassland patches, vegetation surveys of study sites and data entry.
Qualifications include; Strong ability to identify eastern birds by sight
and song, willingness to work long hours in a hot and humid climate with
numerous biting insects, reliable vehicle (work mileage while on site will
be reimbursed at $0.27/mile), vegetation experience and familiarity with
dBase helpful but not necessary. Applicants for Head field research
