There was a Sandhill Crane circling over the fields between Ladson Road and the
French Broad River in Henderson County (southern NC mountains) yesterday
afternoon between 5:30 and 6:00pm. It circled for several minutes then flew
off toward the SW (upstream). A few minutes later, though, it was back
circling over the same spot again only much lower. In fact it was so low I
could see the red on its head. I figured that maybe it wanted to land in the
field where I was standing, so I moved on. When I turned back I didn't see
it again. Wayne and Bob are checking this morning to see if it is still
around. This is the same location that four Sandhills hung out for about a
week in December.
