I`m leading or co leading a trip if Harry LeGrand can make it on either
March 17th or 18th depending on good weather to the Richmond County section
of the Sandhills Gamelands all are welcome to come along. I`ll be focusing
on photography a good bit and we`ll probably be moving fairly slow if the
butterflies pose for the cameras. After we hit this huge patch of wild
plums in full bloom we`ll be looking for the rare Brown Elfin, I know it
might be easy in Weymouth Woods(17 already reported last sunday) Paint Hill
tract, but hopefully we`ll get lucky and find a new colony maybe.
If the weather isn`t good enough for butterflies we`ll be looking for
birds, herps and wild flowers. We always look for these anyway on Carolina
Butterfly Society field trips anyway. This will be the first Carolina
Butterfly Society trip of 2001. So far we have 8-12 people coming along and
members or non members are always welcome. To see the 2001 trips schedule

The goodies that should be out would be Great Purple Hairstreak, Brown
Elfin, Henry`s Elfin, Eastern Pine Elfin and White-M Hairstreak just to
name a few of the easier to photograph butterflies. Last year I went out to
the Sandhills Gamelands and Weymouth Woods on March 15th here`s some photos
from that trip I did real good finding lots of butterflies everywhere I went.
