The IRC’s External Relations Department furthers the IRC’s work around
the world by raising the IRC’s profile and raising close to $62
million in annual support from individuals and institutions from the
private sector. The External relations department’s units include
Leadership Gifts, Strategic Marketing, and Communications & Public
Information,, all supported by Operations & Information, which is
responsible for gift processing; reporting on revenue and donors;
administering and managing the IRC’s constituent databases; conducting
donor and prospect research; and providing strategic reports and
analysis.

SCOPE OF WORK:
The Research Analyst provides senior staff, board directors, and
External Relations staff with high-quality donor research and
strategic input for board meetings, donor meetings, events, and
strategic planning, and works closely with staff from the Operations
unit, other External Relations Department units, the President’s
Office, and consultants. He/she focuses particular attention on the
identification, research, and tracking of individual, corporate, and
foundation prospects, and directly supports the prospecting efforts of
the Leadership Gifts staff, in particular. The Research Analyst is
responsible for implementing the moves management and prospect
tracking systems in order to monitor activities associated with
ushering prospects and donors along the giving continuum, and ensuring
that related processes and procedures are upheld. The Research Analyst
meets regularly with staff to inform strategy around the cultivation
and solicitation of prospects and donors. Supervision and training of
a research intern may be required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Identify and qualify prospective corporate and foundation donors
capable of significant financial support;
Mine internal databases, external publications, and leadership
networks  to identify individual prospects for major gift solicitation
assignments;
Design, institute, and maintain moves management and prospect tracking
systems to record, monitor and measure related fundraising activities;
Work with Operations and Leadership Gifts staff to formulate policies
for prospect assignment, management, and tracking, and facilitate the
process as it evolves;
Take a lead role in organizing and informing prospect identification
and review meetings;
Assist in setting and reaching annual goals for number of prospects
and potential funds raised;
Conceptualize projects that result in new prospects for the organization;
Rate donors and prospects in terms of inclination and capacity, and
consult with fundraising units on cultivation and solicitation
strategies;
Conduct biographical and financial research on donors utilizing
in-house files and a variety of on-line, electronic, and printed
sources;
Write confidential research profiles on both individual and
institutional donors for meetings and strategy planning, and prepare
briefings for development events;
Develop strategic recommendations about prospect and donor
cultivation, solicitations, and long-term relationship management for
front-line fundraising colleagues;
Provide due-diligence background research on individual and
institutional donors;
Establish benchmarking to evaluate effectiveness of research
recommendations and products;
Promote research support services to colleagues through presentations
and reports;
Develop expertise in institutional programs and develop external
resources to monitor and track industry specific changes that are
relevant to IRC’s mission;
Oversee special projects (e.g. electronic screening by vendors, data
mining, etc.) and conduct pro-active research projects with the
guidance of supervisor;
Undertake additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree – Master’s degree is a plus, but not required;
3-4 years work experience with prospect/donor research in the
non-profit fundraising field;
Knowledge of prospect management and prospect tracking principles and methods;
Demonstrated aptitude for analyzing and interpreting data (including
property records, SEC filings, IRS 990s, etc.), and for synthesizing
complex information from multiple sources;
Demonstrated ability to develop proactive prospecting methodologies to
support organizational goals, including data mining, sophisticated
constituent database queries, etc.;
Keen understanding of the business sector and familiarity with
corporate research and resources;
Proven writing skills – the ability to successfully write and edit
professional fundraising documents;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – the ability to
successfully interact with a variety of people on different levels,
and comfort with speaking and presenting research in a group setting;
Solid organizational skills – the ability to work productively in a
fast-paced environment, and the ability to prioritize a multi-faceted
workload under strict deadlines, sometimes with limited guidance;
Flexibility and patience – the ability to work productively in a team
environment and independently, and the willingness to meet unexpected
demands with a positive attitude;
Attentiveness to detail and accuracy in data entry, reporting, fact
finding, and writing;
Ability to act with sensitivity and discretion while working with
highly confidential information;
Excellent computer skills: internet search engines and advanced search
techniques, fundraising software, data retrieval services (e.g.
LexisNexis, Wealth Engine, Foundation Directory), MS Office (Word,
Outlook and Excel, in particular). Experience working with a
relational database a necessity, preferably Raiser’s Edge.
Membership in APRA is encouraged, as is participation at professional
conferences and seminars.

Customer service orientation.  Initiative, attention to detail, flexibility to change priorities, maturity and discretion with highly confidential information.  Ability to work under pressure, to meet deadlines independently and in a team.  Proven track record and organizational skills to manage several projects simultaneously.

Strongly preferred:  College degree (advanced degree such as Master’s in information science or business helpful).   Experience with Lexis/Nexis for Development professionals and researching wealth indicators, including SEC documents.  Knowledge of electronic screening services, SEC tracking services and ratings systems useful.  Knowledge of higher education fundraising and knowledge of the Jewish philanthropic community helpful.

The Wyndham Robertson Library at Hollins University,

Reporting to the University Librarian, the Information Technology/Liaison Librarian will provide leadership in the development, implementation, maintenance, and use of library electronic resources and technologies (50%).  The librarian will manage the library web site and electronic resources; have primary responsibility for the ongoing maintenance of the library’s Innovative Interfaces integrated library system; provide first-tier troubleshooting for staff and public PCs in the library; serve as liaison to the Information Technology department on library technology issues; and advocate for the interests of library technology through awareness of emerging trends, standards, and technologies.  He/she will also serve as a liaison librarian (50%) providing instruction, reference, and collection development services to a designated academic division (current responsibilities are the departments in Natural Sciences and Mathematics).  The librarian will provide regular reference desk support, including one evening shift per week during the regular academic year.

Qualified candidates must have an ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and information science or other related master’s degree; experience or training in managing library information technologies; demonstrated knowledge of web site management; excellent oral and written communication skills; interest and ability to provide reference, instruction, and collection development; demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively
and independently; and a commitment to professional development.  Successful candidates must also be motivated self-starters who possess a high level of energy, flexibility, and creativity.  Candidates with a strong knowledge of or experience with an integrated library system are preferred.

COMPENSATION

POSITION PURPOSE
The Information Technology Specialist 2 (Database and IT Specialist) serves as the primary customer relationship management (CRM) database administrator for the Development and Alumni Programs team and as such, mines the database and extracts data for the purposes of direct marketing, maintains and updates data to ensure data integrity within the database and prepares datasets for use by colleagues in direct mail, e-marketing, telemarketing, and for research purposes.

NATURE AND SCOPE 
Under general supervision of the Associate Vice President for Development and Alumni Programs, the position follows established procedures and protocols to contribute to the day-to-day delivery of Evergreen’s annual giving program, alumni programs communications, major and planned giving programs and other development initiatives requiring data and/or technical support. The position works collaboratively within the Advancement Division and campus community to ensure data standards are achieved and technology solutions are accessible to both highly technical and non-technical staff. The position also provides general technical support for Development and Alumni Programs technology solutions.  This position may assist in strategic information technology planning for the Division.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years experience in the following areas:
    • Mining and extracting data from CRM (customer relationship management) database software, e.g. SCT Banner, Raiser’s Edge or similar, as well as maintaining the database and preparing data for the purposes of fundraising, direct marketing, telemarketing and e-marketing.
    • Using Microsoft Access and Excel to mine and to extract data from a CRM database.
    • Analyzing, designing, programming, installing and maintaining computer software applications, hardware, telecommunications and network infra-structure equipment, providing customer and technical support in information technology and managing complex software upgrades.
  • Experience in higher education, fundraising, and non-profit organizations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Customer Relationship Management (CRM) System Administration (75%)

  • Develop, build and execute complex queries using a (CRM) database for the purposes of direct marketing, telemarketing, research (data mining), and reporting.
  • Extract constituent segments and prepare segments for a variety of uses including telemarketing, e-marketing, direct mail.
  • Perform general maintenance of the constituent database to ensure database integrity through extensive data clean up of database constituent records including data entry.
  • Hire, train and coordinate student employees for the purposes of data entry and maintenance.  Regularly check student work for accuracy.
  • Maintain the database validation forms, control forms and other related processes, as well as be responsible for associated documentation.
  • Assure compliance with campus security protocols for computer systems and in consultation with Computing and Communications assure that systems unique to Development and Alumni Programs meet similar requirements.
  • Collaborate and/or negotiate with the campus-wide Banner Users Group on data entry standards, use of database forms, and other shared and related issues.

Technical Support/Troubleshooting (10%)

  • Serve as technical support for software applications for Development and Alumni Programs including using, maintaining, testing upgrades and new systems, and general troubleshooting.  Software and related systems include but are not limited to: Banner, CashNet On-Line Giving, RuffaloCody CampusCall, Greater Giving Auction Pay, Basecamp online project management system, My Emma (e-marketing).
  • Provide primary technical support for Evergreen’s Annual Fund.  Provide operational/technical support for the campus call center including software application and hardware maintenance.
  • Provide support for event management using Banner and third-party software solutions.
  • Resolve technical problems in consultation with Computing and Communications and Client Services including interfaces between Development and Alumni Programs and administrative computer systems, network security and user role management.

Project/Upgrade Support (5%)

  • Under guidance from project managers and in collaboration with Computing and Communications, assist in implementing new applications (e.g. alumni constituent community, matching gifts) and upgrading existing applications (e.g. CashNet On-Line Giving, RuffaloCody CampusCall telemarketing system) to meet strategic priorities including defining the scope, scheduling design, maintenance, testing and quality assurance of the applications.
  • Assist clients with defining and prioritizing data requirements and understanding the scope of the project including system capabilities and limitations.
  • Oversee the work of vendors responsible for installing the systems.
  • Coordinate projects related to including new sources of information to the database (e.g. constituent screenings, alumni directory, student roll, matching gifts).
  • Work with Computing and Communications unit to establish and utilize test and production environments for relevant modules of college wide systems.

Training / Documentation (5%)

  • In a collaborative environment assess training needs, approaches, and course materials for Development and Alumni Programs systems.
  • Conduct user training, including but not limited to CRM database and Microsoft Access.
  • Create system and user documentation and instruct users on system software.
  • Identify and document data entry standards and update procedures manuals.

Additional Duties (5%)

  • Field customer service requests and needs from across campus.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties
Conduct prospect research by the collection, synthesis and recording
of confidential biographical and financial data regarding prospective
donors as requested. Create customized briefings for top
administrators, database-generated profiles and event briefings on
individuals, corporations, foundations and associations. Maintain
accuracy of data and ensure information collected is input into RE in
a timely manner.

Spearhead a sophisticated prospect identification initiative in
support of major gifts, annual giving and planned giving programs.
Basics include management of electronic database screenings and
grateful patient family data review. Key responsibilities include
innovative, ongoing review of the database to identify new areas of
opportunity that have the potential to increase revenue for any and
all Foundation programs.

Assist with setting priorities for reviewing data sets and provide
development officers with written narratives on prospects. Generate
caseload reports, unassigned prospect reports and various other
prospect/donor reports for staff on monthly basis or as needed. Create
queries, exports and other custom reports using RE, Excel and Crystal
Reports.

Perform special assignments as requested by the President of the
Foundation or the Vice President of Information and Support Services
(such as board candidate identification, benchmarking reports, etc).

Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree required.

A minimum of three to five years of experience in prospect research or
equivalent relevant experience outside of fundraising.

Extensive database use, The Raiser’s Edge preferred and creating and
generating reports via Crystal Reports.

Extensive Microsoft office use.

Associate Director of Prospect Management

The University of New Hampshire seeks an enthusiastic, dynamic, and
analytical prospect development professional to develop and implement
a framework of sophisticated prospect management within our
organization.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of
Prospect Research and Management and development officers to ensure
that appropriate and intentional steps are taken to increase the value
of their portfolios, and that prospect relationships are managed in a
thoughtful and strategic manner.

This position is critical to the success of our comprehensive
campaign, to which it will contribute by providing leadership and
guidance in the application of prospect management methodologies and
best practices. This position will develop and implement policies and
procedures for prospect pipeline monitoring and management, and will
participate in and coordinate prospect strategy sessions with all
development officers, including the AVP for Development and the Vice
President of Advancement. This position is also responsible for the
implementation of analytics, including metrics, data mining, modeling,
and oversight of reporting strategies as they pertain to prospect
management efforts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and minimum of five years prospect research and
management experience, advancement services or analytical experience.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

·              Experience in prospect management and analysis and/or
closely related fields in fundraising.

·              Extremely strong analytical skills and ability to
synthesize high volumes of information and interpret effectively for
senior management purposes.

·              Demonstrates initiative and self-motivation as well as
ability to identify and solve problems.

·              Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and
ability to function well individually as well as as part of a team.
