Dear Bhagavatas:
All genuine Saligramams lying in the riverbed of GanTaki haver already been
picked out and treasured with the King of Nepal in his palace. In the olden
days, visitors to Muktinath used to get Saligramams from the King of Nepal.
All that is left behind in the riverbed are only HiraNyagarbhar Silas.
No doubt, some elders residing in the Divyadesam for long may be having some
genuine ones, which they will only be glad to offer to genuine seekers. That
is how, way back in 1991 during my visit to Muktinath, I got about a dozen
Saliogramamas, I showed them to Srikaryam Swami to H.H. Srimad Andavan,
Poundarikapuram Swami Asramam, Srirangam. He examined each one of them and
spelled out the names of the various moorthis. I am keeping them along with
another batch bequeathed to me by my parents and am doing Tiruvaradanam.
There are several restrictions on the size, color, weight of Saligramams
that can be used for worship. Please familiarize yourself with these
restrictions before you venture to acquire one for your daily worship. You
may consult your Acharyan on these matters.
As rightly pointed out, we should scruipulously avoid purchasing from
commercial outlets like in Mylapore, Triplicane etc. where the Silas may not
be the genuine ones.
