The Biomolecules-Carbon-Structure

     Carbon is the element upon which all organic chemistry is based. It generally contains 6 protons and 6 neutrons. As you can see in the image to the right it has a tetrahedral shape. This causes it to form mirror images. The electrons in the outer energy level of carbon are unpaired and all form nonpolar covalent bonds

     Carbon is a very common element and it has a very high self bonding capacity. This allows it to form the long chains and rings that make up most of the complex organic molecules
