Walker Percy Serenity Circle & Statue
The St. Tammany Parish Library in Madisonville, La., built an enduring memorial to Walker Percy in the form of a life-sized Walker Percy statue in the permanent outdoor garden known as the "Walker Percy Serenity Circle." The library also houses a Walker Percy reading room. Visitors to the Serenity Circle are welcome.
"He had elected not to practice medicine, but Walker the novelist was a brilliant, perhaps a born, diagnostician. He knew, for he was always a student of life, the prognosis of a serious spiritual malady; he could read the signs and portents of despair. He could detect how easily a spirtual disorder can overtake a fellow human being, a familiar society, or the nation we live in...."
