The diary covers John Frank Stiehm's time in the Army when he left Camp Shelby, MS, on September 12, 1918 for France and returned to the U.S. upon his discharge on June 6, 1919. For clarification, WWI was fought from July 28, 1914 to November 11, 1918; therefore, John Frank only served 2 months in France and then the war ended. He did, however, stay in France until May 1919. This diary is more about one man"s day-to-day journey during his deployment to France near the end of WWI and not at all about any type of bloody warfare.
