Verbs with D.O. in Genitive
Is there anyway to predict whether or not a verb takes its direct object in the Genitive? Or, do you just have to memorize a list?

Re: Verbs with D.O. in Genitive
There are some general rules.
Juan Coderch's primer Classical Greek: A New Grammar has a list of verbs.
αἰσθάνομαι
ἀκούω
ἁμαρτάνω
ἀμελέω
ἀπέχομαι
ἀπέχω
ἀπολαύω
ἀποφεύγω
ἅπτομαι
ἄρχω
ἄρχομαι
βασιλεύω
δέω
διαφέρω
ἐπιθυμέω
ἐπιλανθάνομαι
ἐπιμελέομαι
ἐράω
θαυμάζω
θιγγάνω
καταγελάω
καταγιγνώσκω
καταδικάζω
καταφρονέω
δρατέω
λαμβάνομαι
μέμνημαι
μετέχω
ορέγομαι
παύομαι
περίειμι
προέχω
στρατηγέω
τοξεύω
τυγχάνω
φεύγω
ψαύω
So yes, you need to learn which construction any given verb takes. (The default object is the accusative). Of course, this list is not complete. Each verb has its own nuances and particular usages and shades of meaning and structures it supports. But this list is a good start.
See http://perseus.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/phi ... Monographs. With Certain Verbs: The genitive is used as the object verbs that denote sharing, touching, beginning, aiming at, obtaining, smelling, remembering, hearing, perceiving, filing, ruling, differing, commanding, etc. Smyth 1341-1371
