It certainly is related to that shift. That much I know ;->cwconrad wrote:I don't know whether this helps or not, but I have continued to use the original URL

and have found myself always automatically logged in, but whenever I've used the "newer" URL
<http://ibiblio.org/bgreek/forum/>
the automatic login doesn't work. Consequently I keep using the older/original URL that works. I wonder whether the problem has something to do with the shift from "www.test" to "www." in the URL doesn't have something to do with the problem.

Re: Logged out every time
I just updated Google Reader to use http://www.ibiblio.org instead of www-test.ibiblio.org. Previously it linked to www-test and cookies worked, but now this problem appeared. Firefox doesn't have any cookies for http://www.ibiblio.org.
Edit: But Chromium (on Linux) seems to work correctly.

Re: Logged out every time
With the caveat that I'm far from an expert on cookies...
A quick look at my Cookie cache shows that although I have only ever used the "www.ibiblio.org" domain, the site is setting cookies for "www-test.ibiblio.org"
Looking at the page in code view shows that the java script for cookies is referencing the "www-test.ibiblio.org" domain, not the "www.ibiblio.org" domain:
var style_cookie_settings = '; path=/; domain=www-test.ibiblio.org';
Finally, using the Firefox extension "Edit Cookies" shows that all the cookies reference "www-test.ibiblio.org"
So it looks like the "www.ibiblio.org" domain is setting cookies just fine albeit for the wrong domain, thus no auto-login.
Perhaps a resolution is as simple as updating the domain name in the code for setting cookies and in the cookies themselves?

Murray,
I just changed that. If this fixes the problem, I owe you a beverage of your choice.

Here's an e-soda from me. Firefox shows that there are cookies now.Jonathan Robie wrote:Murray,

Re: Logged out every time
So this problem was solved in 2012? I am still having it. Set my browser to accept cookies from sities I visit and get no cookie from b-greek. On top of that Sarfari doesn't work with the text editor. So I use Firefox. I keep the window open and i get perhaps 30mins or sometimes a little longer and then I am logged off. If I close the window and naviage to b-greek most of the time I am logged off.

Re: Logged out every time
Are you losing posts due to time out?
I find that when I am logged off automatically and unbeknowns to me, then I hit "submit", and get the login screen, the two worst things to do are to login or to go back to the previous screen using the arrow.
To not lose your work, open a new window, login to B-Greek, and then go back to the first screen where the system asked you for a login (rather than the second one that you decided on it), and then click on the back arrow to return to the editing screen (that you left to submit the post), and then re-submit the post.
There are two levels of backing up your work as you type. The first and easiest is to frequently press preview. In some browsers your work will be recoverable after closing the window, and you will not be worried by the time out logouts. The second way is to save as draft, then go to user control panel - manage drafts - edit. That is a lot of fuss sometimes, but quite secure.

I generally edit off line and paste in to the web editor, add a little text formatting and copy it back to my text editor. The main issue is logging on. I stay logged on to Textkit for a month.

Re: Logged out every time
I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm overdue for updating to a more recent version of phpBB, I'll try that Monday or so and see if it fixes your problem.Stirling Bartholomew wrote:So this problem was solved in 2012?
