Regarding your comment, please check my omicron with my omega (see my omega audio sample ὠκεανός); I think this would illustrate the difference I make between the two - just the length/duration. Comparing my ὀρθόδοξος (or, rather, my ὀρθογράφος and ὄρος) with someone else's orange would not yield a relevant result, I think...
