Koine morphology reference works
What are the best reference works for Koine morphology?

Re: Koine morphology reference works
Smyth
Moulton & Howard's Grammar of New Testament Greek Vol. 2: Accidence and Word Formation
Gerhard Mussies The Morphology of Koine Greek
Smyth and Moulton and Howard will give you historical development and background with the latter providing additional perspective from the Egyptian papyri. Mussies gives extensive prose statements that supplement the charts of paradigms with an very up to date linguistic analysis of morpho-syntax.

Mike took those recommendations out of my mouth. I would add:
Francis Gignac, A Grammar of the Greek Papyri of the Roman and Byzantine Periods Vol 2: Morphology (Milan: Instituto Editoriale Cisalpino - La Goliardica, 1976).

Re: Koine morphology reference works
In addition to Smyth, on a more accessible level I found Mounce's Morphology of Biblical Greek helpful, as well as Ward Powers' Learn To Read New Testament Greek and Funk's Beginning-Intermediate Grammar of Hellenistic Greek.KimmoHuovila wrote:What are the best reference works for Koine morphology?

Is the volume Gerhard Mussies The Morphology of Koine Greek the same as this volume:
The Morphology of Koine Greek As Used in the Apocalypse of St. John: A Study in Bilingualism

Why is the best Morphology on Koine Greek not yet named? It is: A Morphology of New Testament Greek: A Review and Reference Grammar. Brooks, University Press of America, 480 pages.
It's exhaustive, plausible and not too hard to read. I think one should have it. I recommend it.

Re: Koine morphology reference works
We were waiting for you to name it, of course. But besides being exhaustive and plausible, what are its other merits? Could you give us a short review, if you have time? I must admit I'm always a little suspicious of anything published through University Press of America ( Rowman & Littlefield), which is a well known vehicle for what is essentially self-publication. They appear to have nothing in the way of editorial standards and allow anything from soup to nuts (and mostly nuts).Peter Streitenberger wrote:Why is the best Morphology on Koine Greek not yet named?
