How do I work out the meaning of a Greek text? How can I best understand the forms and vocabulary in this particular text?

Romans 5:5a

Post by Bill Ross 2 »

Does KATAISXUNEI imply "disappoint" or "shame"?

Rom 5:5a ἡ δὲ ἐλπὶς οὐ καταισχύνει,

Thank you.

Do you have access to BDAG? That's my favorite dictionary, but here are a few free online choices.
Also note that laparola.net shows every place that this word is used in the Greek New Testament.

I'd start by looking there. Or what have you looked at so far?
ἐξίσταντο δὲ πάντες καὶ διηποροῦντο, ἄλλος πρὸς ἄλλον λέγοντες, τί θέλει τοῦτο εἶναι;

Thank you for the links.

The helps seem to only offer "ashamed" but the translations all supply "disappoint":

That's why I asked.
