Vocabulary to the Gospel of John
Hello,
Does anyone know how to get the vocabulary for the individual chapters for the Gospel of John other than going through the chapters looking at each word individually?
Thanks,
Joseph Roberts

I don't understand what you are trying to achieve. Can you rephrase and explain?

Do you have access to Bible software, such as Logos or Online Bible or Accordance?

I can do this in Logos Bible Software; The application is a free download, as is the SBLGNT, but I'm not entirely sure that functionality is available in the free version.josephroberts wrote:well I want to get a vocabulary list just for all the words occurring in a single chapter of the gospel of John.

Alternatively, at the risk of self-promotion, you may be interested in Flash! Pro vocabulary memorization software, which has the ability to select vocabulary from any passage of scripture. http://people.stfx.ca/kpenner/flash/

Re: Vocabulary to the Gospel of John
Well, if your system has the requirements, I recommend installing Logos 4, which you can download for free at https://www.logos.com/support/logos4/install. What you are asking is really easy to do with Logos 4. I just created a new word list and then added John 1 from the NA27 (or whatever Greek version you have available). You can print it off in card format, or copy/paste it. When I did that it pasted a whole table with word count, English gloss, and some other things, but it's easy to delete the columns you don't want. I believe you can do this in Logos 3, but it's been so long since I've used it that I'm not sure how. I suggest you look into doing something like a word list. If I remember correctly, there is a file menu and you can create something new from there.

I don't know if you are looking for a digital list, or a printed list. There are several 'Reader Lexicons' available for the NT Greek:
Sakai Kubo: A Reader's Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament (1975) http://www.amazon.com/Readers-Greek-Eng ... sakae+kubo
Burer/Miller: A New Reader's Lexicon of the Greek New Testament http://www.amazon.com/New-Readers-Lexic ... 0825420091
Those books are great. I grew up on Sakae Kubo. But these books are not digital.
If you have coding skills, you can download the Tischendorf GNT (Several years ago the Morph GNT was available. It was based on the German Bible Society's (USB4/Nestle-Aland text) and came into copyright issues. The SBL GNT came out several years ago and made those copyright issues a non-issue for savvy internet authors who wanted to provide a version of the GNT on their websites. You can go to http://morphgnt.org/ to download their textfiles. I have a database I use at http://www.letsreadgreek.org/resources/ntdatabase3.mdb that has the old GNT and Tischendord texts in a table. You can make a vocab list from them if you know Excel or Access or are able to link to the NT tables in those databases, you can create word lists from them.
The Perseus implementation has the ability to create word lists. You can find the John page at http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/tex ... ook%3dJohn. But that page does not seem to work correctly for the vocabulary utility.
If you look at flashcardexchange.com you can find flashcards for many NT Greek workbooks and texts.
Hope this helps. Why don't you make a re-post or reply about what you are really looking for.

Re: Vocabulary to the Gospel of John
Hi Sorry for my late reply, I had some personal matter that came up, actually I found some lists online that someone put up so I have been actively memorizing them. I already have a good vocabulary and just want to memorize the words that I am not familiar with and read through the Gospel of John completely to become as fluent as I can.
