manuscript collecting
FYI
I posted a request a few weeks ago for suggested books on the history of manuscript collecting - thanks, again, to all those who responded - and said that I would post the results for anyone interested. So far, this is what I've come up with in case you are interested (or if anyone has other suggestions):
A Guide to the Collector of Historical Documents, Literary Manuscripts and Autograph Letters by Henry T. Scott and Samuel Davey, S.J. Davey, London, 1891
Autograph Collecting: A Practical Manual for Amateurs and Historical Students by Henry T. Scott and Samuel Davey, L.U. Gill, London, 1894
Collecting Autographs and Manuscripts by Charles Hamilton, Modoc Press, 1993
History Comes to Life: Collecting Historical Letters and Documents by Kenneth Rendell, University of Oklahoma, 1995
Manuscripts: The First Twenty Years by Priscilla Taylor & Herbert Klingelhofer, ed., Greenwood Publishing, 1984
Modern Manuscripts: A Practical Manual for Their Management, Care, and Use by Kenneth W. Duckett, American Association for State and Local History, 1975
Neo-Philobiblon: Ruminations on Manuscript Collecting by James M. Osborn, Humanities Research Center of the University of Texas, 1973
Sir Robert Cotton as Collector: Essays on an Early Stuart Courtier and His Legacy by Christopher J. Wright, The British Library, 1997
