Title: Head of the Department of Prints, Photographs and Architecture

Dept.: Prints, Photographs and Architectural Collections

Supervisor: Library Director

Education: M.A. or M.L.S., including formal study in the history of
photography or print processes and of the history of New York City and the
United States

Responsibilities: Manage a department that provides references and
curatorial services for a collection of almost 1 million prints,
photographs, architectural drawings and pieces of advertising
ephemera.  Develops and implements policies and procedures for the
acquisition, organization, preservation of and access to the
collections.  Assists Library Director in long-range planning and
grant-writing.  Plays key role in development of exhibits of materials in
these collections and participates in Society-wide exhibit planning.  Works
closely with grant-funded staff that is cataloging the collections.  The
Department staff consists of 3 professionals and 2 assistants.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years professional visual materials experience
in a research library or museum, encompassing public services and technical
services as well as demonstrated experience curating exhibits of such
materials.  Familiarity with current trends in library/museum access and
preservation, including cataloging, digitization and security.  Successful
grant-writing experience.

Supervisory responsibilities: Supervise print room curators and print room
assistants.  Supervise volunteers and interns as applicable.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
