Re: Toledo Blade editorial

I recently saw a news segment about how companies are now paying big money
to digitally insert their products into sitcom sets. Things such as cereal
boxes, soda cans, etc. can be inserted after taping and everything else is
ready to air.
Very scary!

It has been done. I have heard of instances of genealogists scanning a
document, taking out one name, and putting in a scanned copy of another
name (from somewhere else in the document) in order to create a lineage.
This would have appeared on a printout that was sent to a lineage society,
etc., which the society would have taken for a photocopy of the original
document.

On a slightly different note, apparently during the recent New Year's Eve
broadcasts, one major network had its logo prominently displayed in Times
Square, and another network was able to set things up so that on their
broadcast, *their* logo, rather than that of their competitor, was what
their viewers saw.

Out of curiosity... with computer imaging technology as it is today and
where it's headed, how easy is it to alter the scanned image and "change"
historical facts. Without the primary document the possibilities are kind
of scary. Not meaning to leave the subject of data loss, I think this is a
legitimate question.
