Do you research the photograph so that more information can be provided like
names of people, places, events, etc.?

Long, long time ago before personal computers were so prevalent I did
conduct research on photographs. I would try to determine the following:
Location (if not evident)
Timeframe (year, season, )
Occasion
People (in photograph)
Buildings
Street names

I never knew what a researcher would ask for. Now back to the computer,
since they weren't prevalent I developed a visual card file that used
contact prints. The cards were laminated and one main subject was listed
(Building, Street name, etc) Space was provided for other information.
Researchers could quickly examine the cards. Nowadays I would probably scan
and index.
