Job: Senior Records Analyst, Massachusetts, Harvard University



TITLE:   SENIOR RECORDS ANALYST
DEPARTMENT: Harvard University Archives
SALARY GRADE:      57

SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Associate University Archivist for Records Management, this
position is responsible for providing records management services to University
offices for records in all formats, including electronic records.  The
incumbent will as serve as a member of the Records Management Office (RMO) and
may supervise junior professionals, support staff, casuals, and students.
DUTIES:
    A. Evaluates record keeping practices and systems in University offices.
    B. Provides guidance and assistance for offices in developing, implementing
and improving record keeping systems and practices.
        a.  Assists offices in developing internal policies and procedures.
        b.  Coordinates projects to assist offices in improving record keeping
practices.
    C.  Analyzes and appraises records in all formats.
        a.  Surveys and inventories records.
        b.  Develops and maintains records schedules.
        c.  Develops selection criteria and processing procedures for records
determined to be archival.
    D.   Accessions records of permanent value into the Archives and
coordinates transfer of other records to records center and coordinates
destruction projects for obsolete records.
    E.   Assists in designing policies and procedures for preservation of
electronic records and provides guidance to University offices.
    F.   Trains Records Management Office clients and junior staff in
principles and practice of records management and University records policies.
    G.   Assists in the development of policies and procedures for management
of University records.
    H.   Participates in and may lead committees and work teams of archivists,
records managers, RMO clients and other professionals.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Master?s degree in Library Science, Information Management, or Archival Studies
or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and
experience.
Experience:
Three years professional experience in records management, preferably in a
university setting.  Experience in files management, functional analysis of
records systems, and appraisal and scheduling of records is required. The
incumbent must demonstrate familiarity with the issues and principles of
electronic records management, and have knowledge of automated records
management systems and preservation of electronic records.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of computer systems, automated records management, electronic
archives, and control of electronic documents. Knowledge of archival appraisal,
storage and management.  Strong analytical and communication skills and active
client-service orientation are essential.   Must demonstrate an ability to
manage a variety of projects and tasks in a
complex and dynamic environment, work in high pressure situations, and work
effectively at all levels of the University community.   At times may work in
basements, attics, warehouses and other records storage areas that may be dusty
or moldy.  Must be able to regularly lift 35 lb. records storage boxes.
