Re: accessibility of theses

Undergraduate theses, in my opinion, are simply student
research papers, as opposed to the Master's Thesis.
The research papers come to the library because (1) a
student wants to give us one (occasionally); (2) the faculty
member thinks this is GREAT and one should be in the
library (often); and (3) a department has maintained a file
of the "top-notch" papers and sends the whole thing to
archives (more often than occasional, less often than
frequently). Since copyright rests with the student and
often he/she does not know the faculty member has
passed them along and made them more widely available,
we treat them like manuscript materials. They are placed
in Special Collections/University Archives and cataloged or
listed in our finding aids.
