Taped Telephone Recordings

Hello,

The Department of Special Collections at Marquette University recently
acquired a collection of tape recordings of personal telephone
conversations, which were presumably recorded without the knowledge of one
of the parties (although not for any ulterior, selfish motive.) Both
parties are now deceased. The person who made the recordings died
intestate before donating the tapes, and apparently left no written
statement concerning the disposition of personal effects, but verbally told
several friends and family members that these materials were to be donated
to Marquette.

We would appreciate hearing from any repositories that have tape recordings
made under similar circumstances, especially in regard to the policies and
procedures established for their use. Please respond off the list.

Sincerely,

Matt Blessing, University Archivist
