Re: Mass produced phonograph records

Recordings in 78 & 33/13 rpm & various tape formats suffer greatly in
library environment where use not preservation is the norm. With the
advent of CD's many libraries have deaccessioned their holdings in older
formats. In addition, there are privately produced recordings are in
disc and tape formats. So there's a whole community of professionals
who work with these media. When Archivists need advice with these
materials, they will find help from the professionals in these
organizations: Association for Recorded Sound Collections, Music
Library Association and the International Association of Sound and AV
Archives.
