Fwd: Two Job openings



There are two positions listed below that are available at the Iowa State University Library in Ames, Iowa: Collections Archivist and University Records Analyst.  The deadline for applying for either or both is April 28.

NOTICE OF VACANCY
Collections Archivist

POSITION: Collections Archivist
RANK: Assistant Professor
APPOINTMENT CONDITIONS: Full-time, 12-month, Faculty status appointment.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Collections Archivist supervises the department's collections management unit which is responsible for effectively managing the preservation and access of archival materials such as university records, faculty/alumni papers, private manuscripts, organizational records, film, and photographs.  The unit staff is comprised of the paraprofessional collections assistant and approximately 1.0 FTE of student assistants.  The Collections Archivist performs as well as supervises the following duties: accessioning, arranging, describing, preserving, cataloging, and managing web access.  This position works closely with the Library's Technical Services and Information Technology Divisions, and provides support as necessary in other areas of the Special Collections Department. Engages in scholarship appropriate to a faculty appointment.  Reports to the Head, Special Collections Department.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED: ALA-accredited MLS degree with a minimum of nine hours of archival studies course work, or appropriate equivalencies. Evidence of abilities to meet promotion and tenure requirements.  Knowledge of current standards in the archival profession.  Experience and/or knowledge of archives/manuscript appraisal, processing, archival cataloging (MARC), and archival preservation management.  Effective interpersonal skills as well as excellent oral and written communications skills.  Ability to work within a strongly participatory departmental environment.  Must be able to lift 40 lb. boxes multiple times daily.

PREFERRED: Knowledge of archives and special collections in still and moving images, audio, and digital formats; supervisory experience; WWW site management/HTML.

SALARY: $31,000 - $34,000, depending on qualifications

University Records Analyst

POSITION: University Records Analyst
RANK: Assistant Professor

RESPONSIBILITIES: The University Records Analyst promotes the establishment and development of a records management program by providing direct assistance in the management of university records in all formats and media, particularly electronic records.  Conducts records appraisal surveys and inventories in all administrative offices and writes descriptions for university collections. Analyzes departmental records-keeping systems throughout the university and prepares records retention schedules for departments.  Responsible for documenting records accessions, transfers, and disposal within the university; helps update archives and records program policy and procedures as needed. Engages in scholarship appropriate to a faculty appointment.  Reports to the Head, Special Collections Department.
