POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Independent Media Arts Preservation (IMAP), a new service, education, and
advocacy consortium organized to ensure the preservation of independent
electronic media for cultural and educational use by future generations,
seeks an Executive Director.

Please note that this position is a part-time consultant's position with an
initial contract period of six months. However, we expect that the Director
will raise sufficient funds to make the position full-time and further
define and develop the organization. In addition, this position offers the
means for influencing national policy on electronic media preservation, as
well as the opportunity to shape a dynamic new organization.

Only a year-old, IMAP has already received funding from the New York State
Council on the Arts, the Rockefeller Foundation, the New York Foundation for
the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Director will:

        * Represent and advocate for electronic media preservation and
for the organization before state and federal agencies, funding groups and
professional organizations

        * Supervise the on-going technical assistance program designed
to teach the MARC for FileMaker Template

        * Supervise and mold the Web Tutorial Project designed to
teach the MARC for FileMaker Template via the Internet.

        * Develop a program to address the issues of storage and
long-term care of electronic media

        * Serve as a resource on preservation for the electronic media
community.

        * Raise funds to complete the Web-Tutorial Project, continue
other programs and make the position full-time

IMAP members represent over 40 organizations in the electronic media field
including the Museum of Modern Art, the Kitchen, the Donnell Media Center,
the Dance Collection of the New York Public Library, the National Museum of
the American Indian, the Jewish Museum, the Experimental Television Center,
Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, the Art Media Studies Department of
Syracuse University, Paper Tiger Television, the Bay Area Video Coalition,
Electronic Arts Intermix and the Video Data Bank.
