An internationally renowned cataloger, Sanford Berman has, for the past
40 years, worked to promote openness, candor, responsiveness and free
access to information in libraries, and to oppose barriers to use,
secrecy and arbitrary library policies. Sandy was Head Cataloger at
Hennepin County Library in Minnesota for 26 years until his forced
retirement last year. Sandy will address the forms that censorship
takes inside libraries: through cataloging, shelving, and weeding
policies; economic censorship; workplace repression; and
self-censorship.
