Archival Residency Position



ARCHIVAL POSITION AVAILABLE

The Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives is seeking an
energetic and creative individual to serve in a dynamic and innovative
environment for a 2-year residency.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Marcus Center is offering a two-year, non-renewable
residency position to a recent graduate of an archival management or library
science program.  The goal of the residency will be to provide professional
experience in processing, arrangement, and description of personal papers
and manuscripts.  The resident will also provide public services and
coordinate work with the Marcus Center's genealogical collections. The
resident will report to the Chief Archivist.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a graduate degree in history or library science
with formal training in archival theory and practice. Candidate must have
good oral and written communication skills, ability to work both
independently and collaboratively, strong computer skills, including word
processing, and familiarity with archival cataloguing in a USMARC
environment.

ENVIRONMENT: The Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives,
located on the Cincinnati campus of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish
Institute of Religion, attracts scholars and researchers from around the
world.  Founded in 1947 by the late Dr. Jacob Rader Marcus, the Center is
committed to preserving a documentary heritage of the  religious,
organizational, economic, cultural, personal, social and family life of
American Jewry. Housing over 5,000 linear feet of archives, manuscripts,
film, photographs, audio and video tapes, nearprint, microfilm, and
genealogical materials, it has one of the world's largest and richest
collections of historical records pertaining to the American Jewish
experience.  The Marcus Center also administers a fellowship program,
publishes a scholarly journal, and initiates a variety of programs to
promote scholarship and encourage the understanding of American Jewish
History. The professional staff of the Marcus Center includes three
Certified Archivists.

SALARY: Residents are hired on a two-year, non-renewable appointment and the
Marcus Center offers a competitive salary.  Benefits include generous annual
leave, paid Federal and Jewish holidays, health benefits, dental plan, and
life insurance.
