Special Collections Librarian/Archivist

Augustana College seeks a librarian or archivist excited about working with other librarians and faculty to promote the use of its special and archival collections throughout the curriculum and the college community. Augustana College Special Collections Department houses and maintains the college archive, historically significant collections of materials concerning the Quad Cities and the Upper Mississippi Valley, and rare books in the areas of early Reformation imprints, the book arts, and the French Revolution.

In partnership with public service librarians, the successful candidate will promote the use of our special and archival collections throughout the curriculum and the college community. He or she will provide reference and research assistance to individual users of the special collections and archive and instructional support to faculty teaching courses that make use of these collections. The successful candidate will also continue to develop the work of online description and cataloging of books and manuscript collections, manage the college archive, and work closely with the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center and other local archives to link our archives via a proposed shared online database.  She or he will also serve on the reference desk of the library, and participate in library management and faculty governance.

Required qualifications include; an MLS from an ALA accredited program or an equivalent qualification, the interest and enthusiasm to bring these collections into the center of the library and the campus community, and a sense of humor. Desirable qualifications include some knowledge of archival description, particularly online finding aids and EAD, and some experience with the preservation of library materials. Some knowledge of the history of Augustana College and/or the Quad Cities would be an advantage.
