Re: job market

Point well taken, Anne.

I have made a decision to stay in a house that I've owned for five years.
I'm also of an age where moving to another location has to be taken less
lightly than it used to be. (For example, ten years ago I was ready to go
to Santiago, Chile.) And moving must be financially worthwhile, in other
words, the salary has to be worth giving up a home that welcomes me at the
end of the day. Yes, there are indeed some areas of the country where
salaries are considerably better, but where one might have to change one's
way of life considerably.

I've also stayed in this area to preserve a relationship which would not do
well, for either of us, as a long-distance one.

Before the day becomes a moaning and winging forum for all underpaid
archivists, you might ask yourself the question - Why did I take this job
when I
knew what the pay was? Also, you might ask yourself why you are still
there
when you could get paid so much more somewhere else?

I would like to hear the answers to these questions which might be much
more
revealing of us as a profession.
