Re: job market
I don't normally chime in on this topic, but we are also going through a
search (for a librarian in this case rather than an archivist). We are
offering very good pay and excellent benefits without being too heavy on the
'requireds'. We have only 7 applicants, and closing date is next week. My
guess here is indeed the hot economy, but for a different reason than anyone
has mentioned. We are in extreme northern Wisconsin. It is hard to attract
people to such a (relatively) isolated community, no matter the pay. It is
also particularly difficult to try to fulfill diversity requirements when
you are inviting applicants into an historically 87% white area.
