Background information on the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston:   Saturday,
March 25,2000,  marked the public opening of the Audrey Jones Beck Building,
doubling the museum's gallery space and increasing its size to sixth in the
nation.  Designed by world-renown architect Rafael Moneo, the Beck building
is already drawing record-breaking crowds.  Attendance figures for the
upcoming year are expected to reach two million.    Also, this summer will
see the expansion of the MFA,H's Hirsch Library, already serving
seven-thousand members of the Houston art community.  The expansion will
double the size of the Hirsch Library to accommodate its growing collection,
already in excess of 100,000 items.

Position available:
2000 Summer Archives Assistant
Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

The MFA,H is seeking a Summer Archives Assistant to aid the archivist in the
daily operation of the museum's archives.  The processing of an
institutional record series in accordance with standard processing
conventions will constitute half of the position's responsibilities.  The
remaining half of the assistant's duties will include providing reference
services, labeling and inventorying the A/V collection, inputting records
into MSAccess database files, and assisting with other duties necessary to
the operation of the Archives Department.  The Summer Archives Assistant is
invited to attend behind-the-scene tours and lectures given each Friday as
part of the Education Department's Internship program.

Requirements:  Current enrollment in accredited Masters in Library Science
program.  Completion of basic archives course at graduate level or prior
work experience in archival or special collection setting.  Art history
background preferred.  Word processing and database skills.  Ability to lift
twenty-five pound boxes and climb ladders.

Work schedule:  Ten-week position, May 22, 2000 through July 28, 2000.
(Some flexibility in starting and ending dates.)  Hours are 9 am - 5pm, M-F.

Salary:  $10.00/hour.  Total salary for ten weeks is $3500.
