Re: Moveable shelving

We didn't use boxes when we moved and the results were great. The movers
had carts that were really just shelves with wheels. Books could be taken
off in order, placed on the carts (four shelves back-to-back, so really
eight shelves per cart) the carts were then shrink wrapped and "stuffed" so
the books wouldn't move, the carts rolled onto the van. Each cart was
labelled with the new shelf location so that when the carts arrived, the
books could be placed on the shelves in the same order. I've moved before
with boxes and this way is incredibly easier and more efficient. The only
problem is that the carts become very heavy when loaded and need to be
well-constructed.
We moved the archives the same way with carts with deep enough shelves to
hold record cartons. The only place we faced problems were with two journal
collections that were being integrated, title by title.
