This week, the museum will add another medium to its 100,000 hours of radio
and television archives. It will announce Monday that it has formed a
partnership with RealNetworks, an Internet company whose products deliver
audio and video content over the World Wide Web, to create an archive of
Internet content and data.
But just exactly how will the museum's curators decide what to preserve from
the great electronic sea? Will they preserve, for example, the
stomach-stapling operation of Carnie Wilson, the pop singer, broadcast last
year on AdoctorinyourHouse.com? America Online's home page? Anything from
The Drudge Report?
