Old York Historical Society gets state, federal grants

YORK, Maine - The Old York Historical Society has been honored with a grant
from federal and state sources to continue its efforts in preserving Maine's
heritage.
Secretary of State Dan A. Gwadosky announced Wednesday that York is one of
50 communities selected in this round. The towns will receive more than
$45,000 in grant money.
"These grants are an excellent way to preserve Maine's historical records
and museum objects," Gwadosky said.

Denton County's historical commission is joining the state in a search for
records of pioneer families.
Commission members need help from the public to gather information about the
first families in Denton County.
Sue-Beall Shaffer, the chairman of the First Families of Denton County
Committee, said the information will be put in a registry valuable for
genealogical research.
"I felt like there is a great need for this information to be in the
library," she said.

LDS genealogists now offering new Internet Index The Internet Index of the
Pedigree Resource File (PRF) is the latest addition to the FamilySearch
Internet Service, www.familysearch.org, offered free by The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Pedigree Resource File is a lineage-linked
database containing GEDCOM files submitted to the Family History Department
by people who want to preserve their records and share them with others.
Over 40 percent of the records submitted are from users outside the U.S.,
Canada, and the British Isles.

A Denver judge Wednesday barred drug agents from executing a search warrant
to get a Tattered Cover customer's records until he can decide whether the
warrant violates the man's First Amendment rights.
"I'm in support of law enforcement, obviously," said Tattered Cover owner
Joyce Meskis. "But when it comes to customers of our store, their privacy
rights need to be protected."

tachograph records for inspection, but only at his company premises, and
objected to their removal from the premises by an authorised officer of the
Vehicle Inspectorate, in circumstances where the officer had no reason to
believe that an offence of falsifying records had been committed, the
operator had committed an offence of failing to hand over tachograph
records.
