Suitable electronic format for audio-visusal records

Our office is planning to digitize some of our audio-visual records and put
them on our web site for public browsing. For material to be put on the
Internet, we are to make use of streaming technology and, most likely, we
will select Realaudio and Realvideo formats. I'm wondering if anyone out
there can share your views and experience on the formats selected.

I trust you will understand that selecting Realaudio and Realvideo formats
is just to facilitate Internet access. From preservation point of view,
however, which format(s) is/are the most popular in archival setting?

Your comments are most appreciated.
