You're on the right track with the photocopying. If push comes to shove,
even copies on normal office paper will probably last longer than
newsprint. Retire the originals to cool, dark storage.

As far as encapsulation is concerned, it's much more expensive than
microfilming the same page, and you also need to consider that an
encapsulated sheet is at least three times as thick as the original and
weighs much more as well. Encapsulation will not retard chemical
deterioration, and actually increases the rate of deterioration unless you
deacidify the paper first, and that can be expensive.

One of the problems with binding newspapers is that the paper will become
brittle and tend to break off near the gutter. People also tend to handle
bound materials more roughly than loose sheets, so I don't recommend
binding newspapers.
