Re: association archives

Thanks for writing such an article - I hope it will been read by top management where I work! I am the manager of the Archvies and Records Management Section at American College of Physicians - American Society of Internal Medicine.

Name: American College of Physicians - American Society of Internal Medicine
Type: professional, national, non-profit association for internal medicine physicians
Length of time your association has had an archive: 21 years
Was its formation driven by an anniversary or always part of the bigger plan: bigger plan, the physicians who governed the organization cared about preserving the history of the organization. Recently, information and records management has also captured the minds of the organization's executives, so Archives now does records management and plays a key role in information planning for the organization.
Size of staff: 6 full-time staff, including two records managers, two archivists, a manager, and an admin assistant
Size of collection in feet: 1,500 square feet
Audience: 90% in house, 9% association members, 1% public
Your background/training/degree in the field: M.A. in History
Who you answer to in the association: SVP of Operations, but for years my predessor and I reported to the Deputy Executive Vice President (akin to a chief operating officer).
Is any part of your collection on the Web: yes, we will be launching a virtual library of the College's public policy papers. Influecning public policy is an important mission of the College, and the Archives staff anwsers many questions regarding the College's public policies.

If I can anwser any furtehr questions, please feel free to e-mail me.
