Library asbestos danger recorded
http://www.theage.com.au/news/20000517/A585-2000May16.html

by Andrea Carson
Hundreds of State Library staff who fear they may have been exposed to
asbestos over the years have been invited to have the risk noted on their
personal files.
The Community and Public Sector Union had urged the State Library to issue
about 350 of its staff with a record noting they might have been exposed to
asbestos.
The deadly fibres of white asbestos were discovered in the historic domed
building in February after routine testing for hazardous materials was done
before redevelopment work.

PENDLETON -- When two copper-colored mares were stolen from Clemson
University's equine research center, farm manager Pat Evans got on the phone
and the Internet and put out fliers.
She contacted veterinarians, horse associations and auction houses across
the country. It's possible the two 16-year-old quarter horse mares were sold
at a Kentucky horse auction and are headed for slaughter, she learned. No
one's sure.

The Nevada Labor Commission is seeking a court order to hold a Las Vegas
contractor in contempt, claiming it's blocking the commission's attempts to
enforce labor laws.
In a Clark County District Court suit last week, the Labor Commission said
Jetstream Construction and its project manager John Dombrowski -- accused by
a local union of demanding that Hispanic workers pay kickbacks for
employment on high-wage Clark County School District projects in 1998 and
early 1999 -- failed to comply with a state summons to attend a hearing on
April 24 on the matter and to produce company documents on those projects.
