Michigan Archival Association Annual Meeting

The Michigan Archival Association (MAA) annual conference will be held June 22
and 23 at the Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth, Michigan.

It is the nation's oldest state archival association (1958) and one of the
largest regional organizations of its kind.

Sessions will include:

Movin' On Out: Automotive Industry Collections Outside of Detroit

Voices From the Past: Preservation and Access of Oral History Collections

Going to the Movies: Film Professionals Using Photographic, Film and Video
Collections

Our Heritage: Frankenmuth History and its Preservers

Off to the Sweetwater Sea: Embarking on the Genealogy of the Great Lakes
Mariner
To Stop a Thief: Security Issues and Historical Collections

The conference will also be hosting a workshop on Basic Electronic Records
Management for three-hours on Friday morning. This workshop will review the
basics of electronic records management. Workshop participants will gain an
understanding of basic principles and practice of electronic records
management. Part I will be a "seminar" style discussion and critical analysis
of selected readings available on the Internet. Part II will be a review and
critical analysis of three programs that have successfully applied electronic
records management principles in the work place. Participants will be
expected to study and review all three programs prior to the workshop. There
is a limit of 15 participants, so please register early.

In addition to sessions and the workshop, there will be a side trip to Flint
to visit the Sloan Museum. There is a $5 charge for this trip, and a limit of
12, so again, please register early.

Sessions will end at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday and 2:00 p.m. on Friday in order to
give attendees time to explore Frankenmuth and the surrounding area. If there
is sufficient interest, a golf outing will be organized for Thursday
afternoon. If
you are bringing children, please let us know so we can look into the
possibility of organizing an activity for them too.

In addition to world-famous chicken dinners, Frankenmuth has many interesting
shops, Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, golf, riverboat cruises, a historical
museum, and military and space museum. Birch Run, just seven miles away, has
an outlet shopping center and an indoor ice-skating rink.

The Lodge itself has something for everyone, including restaurants, tennis
courts, an exercise room, and salon. There are now five indoor pools to
choose from -- one has adults only hours, some have depths of only two to four
feet, and one has a waterfall. The Family Fun Center has a children's play
village (for toddlers), video games, ping pong, pool, and air hockey. The
center also has a games and gift shop that will loan you board games, an
indoor miniature golf course, and a casual restaurant with live entertainment.

Registration for the conference will include continental breakfast both days,
a soup-salad-cold cut buffet lunch on Thursday (at which the general business
meeting, elections and raffle will take place), and a traditional Frankenmuth
chicken buffet lunch on Friday. Discount rooms will be available at the
Lodge.
