Hi, Patrick. This name just leapt out at me - will never forget him from
MAC Bismarck days of yore...
Charles F. Granberg, 83, a hotel executive
who loved baseball and music, died
Friday, May 12, in Resurrection Medical
Center in Chicago of natural causes. Mr.
Granberg graduated from Amundsen High
School in Chicago. He was a member of
the Business Executive Association for
about 30 years and was president twice.
Mr. Granberg worked as general manager
of the Chevy Chase Country Club and
worked at the Belmont Hotel for many
years. He served as catering and sales
manager at the Bismarck Hotel for about
30 years, retiring in 1990. After
retirement, his love of baseball came to the
forefront, and he arranged group trips to
Cubs games, said his daughter Coralyn
Peters. In his youth, Mr. Granberg played
the violin and sang on the radio. "He loved
show music," Peters said. "He would
always go where they had piano and
would sing along. He'd sing from his table.
People would clap for him." He was also
a catcher for the Cleveland Indians AAA
farm club and played baseball in Canada,
relatives said. Other survivors include two
other daughters, Cathy Janus and Mary
Roach; three sons, Charles J., Ben and
Michael; 16 grandchildren; and nine
great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held
at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Smith-Corcoran
Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave. Mass
will be said at Queen of All Saints
Basilica, 6280 N. Sauganash Ave.,
Chicago, at 10 a.m.
