Capital Region ARMA Tech Valley Chapter Presents

Capital Region ARMA Tech Valley Chapter

                                Presents

A Dialogue with the New York State Police Computer Crimes Unit

The Program: The New York State Police Computer Crimes Unit (CCU) is
part of the NYSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI). This elite
unit of BCI investigators work to solve computer and technology-related
crime. Records and Information professionals need to keep current on
the latest trends in this area in order to add value to the system
design life cycle and protect valuable information assets. This area of

computer technology grows more important, particularly in light of the
Melissa and I Love You viruses and as more electronic records systems
are brought on-line.

The Presenters: The New York State Police Computer Crimes Unit (CCU) was

established in February 1992 to assist agencies that lack the technical
expertise or resources to manage cases involving evidence stored in
computers seized in criminal investigations. Since then, it has evolved

into a unit that bridges the technological gaps that often exist between

investigating police officers, district attorneys and experts in the
field of computers and related technology. The CCU services the entire
law enforcement community, as well as private enterprises and persons
victimized by technology crimes. Since its establishment, the unit has
become heavily involved in investigating: cellular telephone and credit

card fraud; industrial espionage and computer tampering; adult and child

pornography involving personal computers and the Internet; and cases
involving the use of computers in the furtherance of pedophilia.

What you will Learn: The proper procedures used by law enforcement
officers to collect and secure computer evidence; ways to safeguard data

and systems; update on New York State computer crime laws; and the
latest trends in computer and technology crime.

Please join us for an informative program. However, before you attend
visit the NYSP Computer Crimes web page (see the link on the Chapter?s
home page, http://www.catskill.net/arma), then bring your questions and
