Re: Usage Fees Schedule

In determining your usage fees you must first decide what is the purpose of
the fee.
1. low fee (basically covers processing/reproduction costs)
Benefit: to encourage use of the materials by outsiders thus gaining greater
exposure for the material to the outside community

Risk: you could become overrun by users, no staff to monitor compliance etc.

2. Middle range fee (covers processing/reproduction costs, some "profit" to
help in preservation and growth endeavours)
Benefit: weeds out the curious "lookee lous", awareness raised, funds
generated for projects (don't expect a whole lot)
Risks; may drive away potential users.

3. High fees
Benefits: really limits users, could generate high fees, limited to really
serious users
Risks: material is hardly used as very few want to pay the fees, will go
elsewhere.

Basically what I am saying is that the market forces (supply and demand)
will help you determine the fee structure. Start low and use ever increasing
prices to set the usage level you want.
