Re: "permanent loan" vs "gift"

I strongly agree with Mr. Maples. What happens in twenty or more years when the descendents of the family come to reclaim those records that have taken up some much space and time, and that YOUR institution paid to arrrange, describe, and make available. Your time and resources have then been wasted, and for what? Believe me, a high percentage of the time, a descendent will eventually come to claim those records.

This is not a good idea. It is a poor excuse on the part of the donor to get
free storage for their items they don't have the courage to give free and
clear. I would recommend that if you want to take on the problems is that
you charge a "rental fee" for the space the material takes up after six
months.

I need to come up with a form for a "permanent loan" rather than a outright
"gift." Does anyone have examples of such a form and/or how do you
differentiate between a loan and a gift? Thanks.
