Re: Halon dump

The only reply to the people question was somewhat oblique. Yes, people are at risk. They can suffocate. I have friends who work in an archive with a halon system, and they are told that if for some reason the gas comes on, to run (literally) for their lives out of that room.

Have any of you ever had an accidental Halon dump? This morning a
technician servicing our fire system pulled a switch he shouldn't have,
and Halon came out of a nozzle in our vault at an incredible speed. The
vault is now a disaster area with a blizzard of brittle paper scraps
blown several yards across the floor and up five shelves high;
ripped-out pages of books; hollinger boxes and contents tumbled from
shelves; and even dislodged shelves. Fortunately there were no human
beings in the vault. We haven't started clean-up yet, so don't know if
highly-valuable or irreplaceable items are damaged beyond salvage.

Any advice from others who have experienced such a disaster? Are people or
materials at risk as a result of the Halon escape?

Many thanks.
