Here's a strange one ...

From the "just when you thought you heard it all" department. One of our
library catalogers is allowed to work at home, taking material back and
forth with her. You may have heard that we have been having terrible
wildfires here in Colorado. You guessed it - her home was one of those
destroyed. All of the library material she had is probably gone - we
do not know yet because nobody has been allowed back in there.

The good news is that she and family ( including pets ) are safe and
sound, and that is the important thing. The staff here are meeting to see
what we can do to help out. The library material is replaceable. I think this
qualifies as one of the stranger disaster stories I have heard.

The lesson to take from this from an administrative point of view is 1.
check the insurance status of at home workers to cover the material and 2.
make sure you have at least a rough inventory of what they have. My
understanding in this case is that there was an inventory of part of the
material.

These wildfires are southwest of Denver about fifteen/twenty miles.
Denver has a nice smoky aroma right now, but I promise to have it fixed
by SAA time. Please no jokes about this being another example of how
we are becoming more and more like California!
