speed = processor speed ie how many megaherz do you want.
capacity = how many gigabytes do you want. think mass raid array,
scalability, photos and documents eat up disk space

Think lots of RAM

Think a server for handling the scanner, software, etc. and another server
to handle the storage of the images. Request rack mounted. Basically you are
talking about a custom job not something from Best Buy or Circuit City

As to scanners you might even consider requesting a batch scanner (horrors)
that will handle modern day materials and that is capable of handle
dual-sided paper (duplex-scanning), Also look at your internal bandwidth
capacity. Will your large format scanner handle color?, if not consider
specifying one.

You might post this also to recmgmt-l and photohst for their input, too.
