AUSTIN, Texas--Gov. George W. Bush's campaign workers have concluded that no
documents exist showing he reported for duty as ordered in Alabama with the
Texas Air National Guard in 1972. They are looking for people who served
with him to verify his story that he did.
Dan Bartlett, a spokesman for Bush's Republican presidential campaign, said
he reviewed another 200 -page packet of documents last week from the
National Guard's records repository in Denver.

Objections to open records legislation remain unresolved
http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/index.ssf?/jersey/ledger/febc02.html

by Robert Schwaneberg
Attorney General John Farmer Jr. agrees that government records in New
Jersey should be more open to public scrutiny than they are now.
And supporters of a bill to open government records agree with Farmer's
concerns that some files, particularly those dealing with criminal
investigations, need to be confidential.
But so far, the two sides have been unable to agree on how to resolve the
inherent conflict that arises when the need for taxpayers to know what their
government is doing squares off with the state's need to keep some
information to itself.

How Disney's Pooh Papers went 'Poof!'

Winnie the Who?
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has ruled that Walt Disney Co.
deliberately destroyed 40 boxes of documents--including a file marked
"Winnie the Pooh, legal problems"--that could have been used against the
Mouse in the trial of a royalties lawsuit.
The case, which we'll call "Mouse at Pooh Corner," is potentially worth
millions to the company that licenses the late author A.A. Milne's
characters. Steven Slesinger Inc. sued Disney in 1992, claiming it was
entitled to royalties from Pooh videotapes and computer software.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A chronology of Italy's role in the persecution of Jews
and how German prisoners-of-war viewed the Holocaust will become clearer
Monday when 400,000 pages of World War Two documents are declassified.
The documents, from the Office of Strategic Services, the predecessor of the
Central Intelligence Agency, will be released at the National Archives,
according to the Nazi War Criminal Records Interagency Working Group, which
is declassifying the material.

by Ken Recorr
Citing a lack of criminal evidence, the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office
closed its investigation into Golden Beach's town records on Wednesday -- a
day after embattled Town Manager Rosemary Wascura submitted her resignation
to the Town Council.
The resignation comes amid a swirl of controversy involving missing public
records, unauthorized entries to the town manager's office and Town Hall,
and counterclaims of a records system in disarray.
Wascura offered to remain on the job until Oct. 1 or longer while the
council -- which voted 4-0 to accept the resignation -- searches for a
replacement.
