I remember getting a "tingle" in a library school class when, in a
discussion of print and the diffusion of information, the idea came up that
somewhere in the library are facts or ideas which are not known to anybody
now living, but could be found by reading a book which might have remained
unopened for a generation.  This is sort of an inverse of the saying that
when a knowledgeable elder dies, it is like a library burning down.
